Home Tour No. 2: Guest Room

After ten years in various tiny apartments, this tiny apartment feels like an absolute palace now that we have a guest room/office/storage space. When Haley came to visit I knew the next room in our home tour should be our guest room decor and a few ways we’ve tried to make it more comfortable for our guests, so here it is!

The first and smartest idea I got from my friend Paige was to order this cute little sign from Etsy with our wifi network and password. Everyone always wants it but never wants to ask, so this is perfect.

Next, I put a little white tray next to the guest bed for guests to put their jewelry in, because I am always looking for somewhere safe to leave mine when I’m on vacation. It’s also nice to have a candle and matches in case a guest wants to create a little ambiance. And a few copies of Vanity Fair never hurt nobody. View More: http://abbygracephotography.pass.us/southern-weddings-homes

I’ve actually switched out that lamp recently, but this is the general guest room view, with Will’s desk and bookshelf on the left. We got new sheets and pillows for the guest bed when we moved in so our guests can be comfy! Not pictured here is the vital walk-in closet where we store all the rest of our belongings. I don’t know what we would do without it.

We had some disasters getting this bed set up, though. It’s a sleigh bed, but it needed a box spring, so we bought one from IKEA when we still had our moving U-Haul the day we moved it. It was awful going straight out to buy furniture (really far away. in traffic.) when we were exhausted from getting up at 4am and helping the movers, etc. but we figured when else would we have a vehicle that big? So we get it home after waiting in the special order line forever, and after all that, it’s just sliiiiiiiightly too big, as in one of the corners wouldn’t go all the way down. So then we had to rent a special U-Haul pick-up truck just to return the thing and finally ordered something that fits perfectly from Amazon. In the match up between online shopping and real stores, sadly, the internet wins again.

I loved this navy and white striped bedspread, but I didn’t know what to do about pillows and ended up just getting a little wild with patterns. I love the result!

In our guest bathroom, I made this little tray including some small toiletries, Q-tips, and cotton rounds, so guests have some handy.

Another thing I did to add a little touch of hospitality is add this green water carafe and glasses. I always fill up the carafe with fresh cold water right before a guest arrives. And it’s always nice to have some fancier hand soaps for guests too.

Two things I really would like to get to have in the guest bathroom are an extra hair dryer (I think every guest has asked to borrow one) and maybe a comfy robe.

I went with pink and orange accents and tried to bring in a few different Moroccan patterns to give the look some consistency, but mostly I just pulled things we already had! The bright Parisian photos above the towel rack are all taken by yours truly during my time as an au pair in Paris after college. They are some of my favorite images, and I love that they all coordinate together so well in this frame!

I also thought it might be fun to make a collage frame of just reception decor from our Mike Cassimatis wedding photos. The fun prints are from the Preppy Printshop.
