September Goals

Spotted in Old Town Alexandria

Good day pretty people, and welcome to my favorite month! The soundtrack for this post can be found here. September is all kinds of glorious: football is back, fall is in the air without being legitimately cold yet, and duh, new school supplies. I kind of took the summer off from blogging, but I’m back with a zest that would rival my love for a September Target run for sparkly gel pens in middle school. So what’s on tap for this month?

Well first of all, I’m planning to intermittently join in on Love Bailey Jean’s Blogtember Challenge! The challenge is to blog every day in September following along with Bailey’s prompts. I don’t plan to do the challenge as prescribed, in that I will not do all of the prompts and plan to do some on different days that fit my schedule better, such as today’s post, which is a day early! (Counting this for Sept. 2’s current goals prompt!)  But I love getting to know new blogs, and I definitely want to be blogging more regularly in September. You can find all my Blogtember Challenge posts here. Here’s what else I hope to do:

  1. Month Three of the Contentment ChallengeOne more month of buying experiences, services, and gifts over “things,” which means no new clothes, house goods, etc. Can’t wait to buy a pumpkin candle in October to celebrate!
  2. Plant Mums and Decorate for Fall.  Our balcony flowers need a fall refresh, so I can’t wait to plant some pretty yellow mums.  I also love changing out our interior summer decor for fall! On my list of home items to buy after the Contentment Challenge is over: flameless candles for our hurricane lanterns.
  3. Go to Charlottesville Wineries.  For all my talk about the great DC weekend getaways, I can’t believe we haven’t yet been to the mother of all DC weekend getaways, Charlottesville! We are going to hit up the wineries/distilleries and a UVA football game! This will be the perfect transition into fall.
  4. Go See a Play. This might be tough this month, because we are so busy, but with all the great theater seasons opening in DC this fall, we need to try to make it happen.
  5. Throw a Football Party. September 17th is the Mizzou v. Georgia game along with the Alabama v. Ole Miss game, so it is looking like a good night to host a casual game-watching party and make all the Southern Living SEC team-themed tailgating recipes. This is one of my favorite things about fall!
  6. Try Top Golf or Do the Escape Game with Friends. I’m already skeptical that this will happen, but I am going to try to get us out to do one or the other, and hopefully the other later this fall.
  7. Make a 30 before 30 List! My 29th birthday is at the end of this month, so now is the time to work on a meaningful list of 30 things to accomplish before my 30th birthday!
  8. Drink Cider from Last Year and Go Apple Picking. The fall is all about apples and pumpkins, but I like to spend September obsessing over apples and October making all things pumpkin. I’m really basic, but I add quirky rules.

 August Goals Update:

  1. Month Two of the Contentment ChallengeThis was tough this month with the Lilly after party sale, but I resisted! One more month.
  2. Go to Annapolis. See it all here!
  3. Make Rosemary and Lavender Sheet Spray. This didn’t get done, but I am kind of apathetic about it, so that’s ok. One day I will find a way to use that lavender in our home!
  4. Rent Bikes. Fail. We tried to do this one Saturday, but the place didn’t open until 10, and that was going to be too hot!
  5. Go Kayaking again, but on the Potomac. We actually did stand up paddle boarding on the Potomac and Kayaking in the Annapolis Harbor, so win!
  6. Lay by the Rooftop pool. Praise the Lord we actually spent a Saturday by our pool, because it’s about to close! (But it will close with a bang: a doggy swim! Watch out for Pippa in the pool coming here soon.)
  7. Eat Luke’s LobsterDelicious! We treated ourselves to this after church one Sunday, and it was a great switch up from our routine.
  8. Complete Gallery Wall.  I ordered the photo at the eleventh hour, but all I have to do is pop it in the frame and onto the wall, so I will call it done!
