Friday Favorites No. 16: Halloween Door Decor and Lots of Theater

Good morning! This was the week of pop culture, and it was super fun. Will also decided to start fermenting apples to make his own homemade cider “like the colonists did!,” and it now lives in our guest bathtub. I was hoping we could serve it at our Halloween party, but apparently it will take about a month to ferment, so maybe around Thanksgiving. Otherwise, here’s what’s up!

Shop Hello Harper!

I’m so embarrassed it took me this long to mention this, but I finally ordered some cute items from Hello Harper! I got this blanket scarf and this adorable weekender top this week, and they are both darling! The products are great quality but still really inexpensive, and they ship for free super fast! My stuff came in the cutest gold metallic polka dot paper and just made my day. Full disclosure, my cousin’s girlfriend/my friend Taylor runs this boutique, so I may be slightly biased, but I promise it’s as awesome as she is!

Sense and Sensibility at the Folger, and Hamilton’s America PBS Special

I went to see Sense and Sensibility at the Folger Theater with a friend for a Junior League event this week, and it was so much fun! It was an over-the-top slapstick farcical physical comedy, and we were just glued to it from start to finish. I am a huge Austen fan, so this was just a delight. Plus, they have a Jane Austen + Shakespeare exhibition on display that includes Colin Firth’s white Darcy shirt!

I also watched PBS’s Hamilton’s America special on my DVR this week, and oh my gosh. It was so. good. It was a cross between a documentary on Hamilton’s life and times and a behind the scenes making of the musical kind of documentary as well. There were so many clips from the show interspersed throughout, and if I can get that inspired watching it on my TV, I can’t imagine what it would be like in person! Honestly, this also made me kind of sad because I miss being inside the theater world. And then of course thinking about getting tickets just stresses me out, especially since Will wants to see it more than I do, but we’ll get there someday.  In the meantime, watch this special! I think we could all use a little reminder right now that this is a great nation, and we have a lot to be thankful for.

Lolo Luggage Tags

2016-10-28_0001

You guys, how adorable are these?? I found them at my favorite gift store near my office and then looked online and the options are endless! If you are looking for a fun surcee or a little something special to tie onto the ribbons of a gift, I think anyone would be delighted to receive one of these sweet luggage tags! They almost make me want to have a collection to switch up by trip. I love the plaid and rain boot for a trip to the UK. Also, wouldn’t the “just married” be darling tied onto a wedding gift so the bride could take it on her honeymoon? They also make tons of sports, so they would be a great tag for a kid’s dance or tennis bag if they have the same one as their friends for quick identification at practice. The only one that’s missing is one with skis and poles on it, so Lolo, if you’re listening, you have a request.

Our Halloween Door Decor

Pippa and I decorated our door for our building’s door decorating contest this week! This was a piece of fabric from Jo-ann’s I just used double-stick velcro to attach to the door. Then I got this cute ghost from Pier One last year, some garland and extras from Michael’s and went to town! I recommend the 3M small string-light hanging hooks for adding the extras. I cut holes in the fabric to stick things directly to the door so as not to weigh the fabric down. Not sure if we won, but we sure had fun being engaged participants in the community. There is no bowling alone in this family!

Michael Buble’s New Album

Michael Buble has a new album called Nobody but Me, and it’s awesome! I have always had a special heart for Michael, so much so that I danced my senior recital dance to “Feelin’ Good” and my first dance with Will at our wedding to “Everything.” This album is more of the same you always expect from him, including the mix of rat pack inspired sounds that made me love him and some really catchy pop songs as well. Mom and I went to his concert in St. Louis when I was in college and had the best time. We love you, Michael!

What Else has been Up this Week:

We went on a fall adventure to see farms and foliage last weekend.

I documented more of our Maui trip with our bike ride down a volcano!

I brought the cheeky seasonal sweater back with a fall look in Alexandria.

How was your week?
