Friday Favorites No. 22: This is 30

More details on the Snowshoe Resort here!

How is it already Friday already? This one snuck up on me! Happy Friday from an unseasonably warm DC! I missed last Friday’s update, so here is what has been going on in life over the last two weeks:

Will Turns 30!

Will turned 30 since my last Friday Favorites! Will always downplays his birthday, and when I ask him what he wants to do for it, he kind of hems and haws until I throw something together last minute, usually at The Tombs. Well, I had decided this year was going to be different. This was 30! So I started talking about throwing a huge MLK weekend celebration with all the family and friends starting back in November. That is, until Will announced he was on a team for a big oral argument at the Supreme Court the day after his birthday…womp womp. So guess what we did? The Tombs! But we also celebrated with some of his old Georgetown friends on Friday night, and I took him to breakfast on Monday morning downtown. 🙂 I realized in the end that Will doesn’t care, and it was really about me that I wanted to do something big and crazy, so I am scratching this one off the 30 before 30 list as a win!

Winterizing Our Apartment

We got all our Christmas decorations down on New Year’s weekend, but I like to keep the card garlands around a little longer, because after all, some of them are New Year’s cards, right? I wrote more here about how I add seasonal touches to our apartment and showed off our black watch throw on last Friday Favorites, but here is the rest of our “generic winter” decor! Generic winter decor is all about pine-y goodness, and my friend Monica gave me this perfect candle to fill our apartment with the scent to go along with all my pine cones and fir tree trimmings!

A Weekend Away in Snowshoe

I wrote a little bit here about getting out of dodge last weekend, and here are a few more shots from what we were up to! The weather was a bit warm which made for some slushy snow but also for some bearable mild temperatures (as opposed to the frigid winds we had in Whitetail), and it was a great trip! Snowshoe is a great little resort close enough to drive to from DC after work and with enough shops and restaurants to keep you entertained for a long weekend for sure. Plus, our place was ski-in/ski-out with lockers, and you can’t beat that!

We played the Oregon Trail card game and put together an entire real wooden jigsaw puzzle while we were there, so it was a super productive weekend. 🙂 We also had fun making breakfast and lunch at home and due to Costco quantities, may not need to eat bacon again for a verrrry long time. Although our BLTs were pretty delicious.

Discovering Barre Class

So I know I switch gyms seemingly monthly on this blog, but that’s the beauty of studios that charge by the class! My new jam is Lavabarre, because they have barre, TRX, spinning, and yoga all in one cute little studio. I was into Corepower for a hot minute, but sometimes I feel like I need more variety than just yoga. So far I’ve mostly been going to the barre classes, and I LOVE them, but omg who invented this torture?! It’s kind of like they rebranded your basic Jane Fonda exercises for the 21st century and made them super trendy and absolutely impossible to do. I really look forward to class, though, which must be a good sign!

Perfecting Crispy Sweet Potato Fries

Guys, I made a huge accomplishment this week after many, many somewhat soggy sweet potato fry baking attempts over the years. I may have set the fire alarm off, but I finally made crispy baked fries! I used this recipe. We were out of ghee, so I just used butter, and I think it is the combination of the cornstarch, butter, and dehydrating technique that results in extra crispy fries. We enjoyed them during the NFL playoffs. 🙂

In case you missed it, here’s what I want more of and less of in the new year!
