Friday Favorites No. 28: Cherry Blossom Season!

I caught the cherry blossoms in peak bloom this year! They were gorgeous! If you remember what happened to me last year, you know I deserve this. I also had a wonderful time in Nashville last weekend surprising my friend Heidi for an epic proposal by her new fiance.  And of course, while I was there I got to spend lots of quality time with Paige, Jon Mark, and sweet baby Amelia. To top it off, my friends Ida, Scott, and Lindsey will all be in DC this weekend! I can’t wait to see them all. I only have three favorites this week, but the cherry blossoms count for three, right?

The Cherry Blossom Festival

I went to town photographing around the tidal basin, and the activity doubled as great photography practice.

Heidi’s Engagement!

This past weekend was such a sweet one. I got into Nashville super early on Saturday (about 7:30am, so I’m glad Paige and Jon Mark have a baby) and went to breakfast at Proper Bagel with the Thompsons before getting ready to surprise Heidi! The proposal was a scavenger hunt with different groups of friends stationed at different locations that are meaningful to Heidi and Pate’s relationship. Danielle and I were in the park where Pate and Heidi first played with her dog Nash, and needless to say, she was surprised!

The after-proposal lunch!

We all met up after the proposal for lunch at Chuy’s, and look at how happy this bride-to-be is! I spent the rest of the weekend alternating between family life with the Thompsons (a walk in the park, swinging Amelia in the front yard, grilling dinner out back) and engagement weekend festivities with Heidi (brunch at Butchertown Hall, a pedal tavern, shopping on 12 South, and sober bar-hopping 🙂 ). I also have to get these baby sunglasses at White’s Mercantile. They’re polarized and have 100% UVA/UVB protection, so they’re basically a medical necessity.

It was a refreshing 48 hours, and I am so happy for Heidi and Pate!! There are some fun times ahead for these two. It was really meaningful to see them get engaged after watching their relationship form in law school, and I love that Pate found thoughtful ways for Heidi to retrace their story through Nashville on her way to the proposal.

Conquering my Sweet Tooth

Photo via Lemon Stripes

As you may have heard, I have been battling a serious sweet tooth since the beginning of this pregnancy. This week, I finally decided that the nightly ice cream and magic shell ritual had to come to an end. I also got really into my prenatal exercise routine and ate so much healthier overall this week. (We’ll see how long it lasts!) I think my prenatal yoga class is a great motivator. It helps me see that there are other pregnant ladies out there, and they’re still working out, so I can too. In an attempt to appease the sweets cravings, I started with Greek yogurt, honey and blueberries, and then found these two great recipes from Lemon Stripes: avocado pudding and peanut butter banana “ice cream.” We already love the banana ice cream and can’t wait to try the avocado pudding!
