Friday Favorites No. 34: Settling in for Summer

Happy Friday! It’s pretty dreary around here, but I’m not going to let that temper my excitement about all the friends I get to hang out with this weekend! This was really a “head down kind of week” in the words of one of my colleagues, but after the last couple of months I’ve had, productivity is just what the doctor ordered. We did still manage to squeeze in some summer fun this week, meaning that I’m checking off my DC summer bucket list that I haven’t even officially made yet! Here are the little highlights that made me happy.

My First Visit to the National Zoo

We had a picnic for Will’s office on Sunday, and it was my first time at the National Zoo! I don’t know if I would have thought to add it to my summer bucket list, but it should have been on there! It’s really pretty, and I do love watching the animals. I felt really sorry for the lions having to be out in the heat until Will reminded me that a lion’s natural habitat is probably pretty hot. It was a lovely summer afternoon of just the sort I am dreaming of until Baby Girl gets here!

A Rooftop Evening with the Girls

We have a co-ed small group, but every once in a while we split up into guys’ and girls’ groups for a fellowship night, and this week was that night! We ladies had the best time grabbing dinner, watching a USO Show-style concert at the Navy Memorial, and then going up to our friend Brendan’s rooftop to watch the sun set! It was one of the best views of DC I’ve seen! We dipped our feet in the pool, and I forgot that hauling my body up and down onto a pool ledge is more difficult these days. 🙂

The 2017 Tony Awards and Other TV News

It was the best theater week for someone who doesn’t live in New York, the Tonys! Our beloved Dear Evan Hansen cleaned up, and Ben Platt’s speech was perfection. Then I loved how Bette Midler gave one of the funniest speeches ever, totally ignored the music to tell her to wrap up, and then the sound people just gave up and let her finish in silence. Broadway diva-dom at its best! She deserves it. In other TV news, Joy Anna Duggar’s wedding was on Counting On this week, and I’m sorry, but I’m just not over Duggar weddings yet. She and Austin were precious. Also, Younger Season 4 is coming back June 28th! I can’t wait! And finally, I’m behind on my Bachelorette updates, but since there was no episode this week, I’ll just get back to my recaps next week. I swear I don’t normally watch much TV, but it was a big week! 🙂

Le Pain Quotidien

I rediscovered the joy of Le Pain Quotidien from my New York days this week, and oh my gosh do I love it. The food is just so good, and I love the atmosphere, being waited on in a pseudo coffee shop, everything. My food budget better watch out, because this is my favorite little luxury right now.

Some New Beauty Products I’ve Been Loving

I got some of those little samples in my Nordstrom order this week, and I had also forgotten the joy of liquid blush! It’s so easier than powder, stays on longer, and looks dewier for summer. I’m such a huge fan! I used to love the Tarte blush sticks, and now I’m fully back on the liquid blush train. Also, has anyone else tried wet skin lotion? It’s kind of weird at first, but I have this one, and my legs haven’t felt this smooth since I started shaving my legs in junior high.

What Else Has Been Up on the Blog This Week:

I finally made some June goals!

We hosted a rooftop cookout with my new summer obsession.

Another month, another bumpdate: I’m 8 months pregnant, people!

I shared a fun Charleston photo shoot and some thoughts on friendship in adulthood.

What are you up to this weekend?
