Friday Favorites No. 8

Hi Kennedy Center! Did you know they’re expanding it? I’m pumped.

Happy Friday, folks! We have had about three months of 60-degree drizzly trench coat weather around here (I’ve never had such extended opportunities for a light jacket in my life: fall’s Barbour jacket purchase has been  pre-approved), but this week we finally saw some sun. Hints of summer have also arrived. We had Bible study at our place again, and Will made a watermelon and mint salad to continue to chip away at all that mint I bought, and it has been so nice that the sun is still out when I get home from work now, plus we picked up our pool passes this week! So the theme this Friday is all things nautical. I have some very exciting news at the bottom of this post, as well as a few other tidbits that just came on my radar and our other favorite things, like the dog park (which I wore stripes to. Nautical.). Leeeet’s go!

Dog Park Days

Now that the weather has warmed up a bit, one thing we’re really committed to is weeknight family walks, preferably with all three of us. We love to be outside exploring our neighborhood with this fur baby, and she loves to run around like a nut at the dog park, catching up with all her friends. We’re so lucky to have a darling dog park within walking distance! I am excited to slather on the SPF and spend all kinds of summer evenings there.

Joining the Junior League

jlw

I am excited to announce that I am joining the Junior League of Washington starting this summer! I didn’t think I had time for one more thing, but then I realized some people have children and I can make time in my busy dinner-cooking schedule. Several of my friends are in it in various cities, and I thought it would be a good way to branch out to meet some new people in DC. Also, their house in in this history home in Georgetown! Do you know anyone in it, especially in DC?

Skimm Ahead

Slide1I know everyone loves The Skimm already, because who doesn’t want to get today’s news highlights in one quick, sassy, informative email? I have to admit I was skeptical when they started advertising their Skimm Ahead app, because I didn’t really think I needed it. But I decided to at least check out what it was, and leaping lizards it’s amazing. It’s basically just a calendar with every pop culture event and obscure holiday plugged in already (like movies coming out, the French Open, when to buy a Father’s Day gift, National Wine Day, etc.). So what does this have to do with James Corden? Well first of all, I love him madly and I can’t believe it has taken this long for him to make some sort of cameo appearance around here. But also, I found out from Skimm Ahead that he’s hosting the Tony Awards this year! I am THRILLED. I love Neil Patrick Harris, but it was time to mix it up, and this makes it worth watching a night where we know Lin Manuel Miranda is going to win everything anyway.

Hayden Reis Totes2016-05-20_0001

One / Two / Three / Four

I’ve been assessing my beach gear in preparation for our upcoming trip to Emerald Isle, and I really need a good beach bag. A solid, long-lasting, this-is-my-beach-and-pool-and-picnic-tote-forever kind of bag. And I have my heart set on a sailcloth tote. I love Sea Bags, and might still even go with one, but Hayden Reis bags can be monogrammed! They’re huge, which is awesome when you have your towel in there, they can be wiped clean, and they weigh nothing (aka can be folded up in a suitcase too). I kind of wish they had a navy and gold striped version with a rope handle, but these are my four contenders right now. What do y’all think?

We’re going to Maui!

I’ve been sitting on this one a while, but we are going to Hawaii in June! We are so excited. I am shopping for all the mumus and potentially a new lens for my camera in preparation. So get excited faithful CC readers (hi Mom!), because you know I will be posting excessive amounts of photos, recommendations, and recaps. Does anyone have Maui recommendations?
