Friday Favorites No. 9: Doggy Swim Day!

Pippa gazing longingly at the ball, trying to decide whether she had another belly flop in her.

What an amazing week! I have to say that fall is off to a great start, and Friday Favorites are coming back with a bang! Plus, we’re going to see Cirque du Soleil tonight and then heading to Nashville tomorrow to celebrate a friend’s wedding at the Belle Meade Plantation, so the fun is showing no sign of slowing. I always kind of thought the weirdest thing about being a “real adult” would be that there was no more back-to-school in the fall, but this week has felt more “back-to-school”-ish than a lot of school years ever did. That’s why the return of Friday Favorites at this exact moment feels oh so right. If you’re new around here (hi, Will!), Friday Favorites is where I highlight my five favorite (or most memorable/newsworthy) things of the past week. This week, we have one for each weekday!

Monday: Our Labor Day Dinner Party with Friendslabor-day-dinner-new2016-09-08_0002After we got back from Charlottesville, we spent Monday hanging out, grilling, and having six of our closest friends from law school (plus one sweet little baby) over for a casual dinner party to bid summer farewell. They came over in the afternoon, and we spent some time catching up on our rooftop before coming down to the apartment for dinner. I wanted the decor and the menu to reflect all that is Labor Day: a last-chance celebration of summer. So I pulled out this very summery tablecloth which was a wedding gift from our French friend Jean (he said it’s a traditional pattern from where he’s from in Burgundy), and Will grilled burgers, corn on the cob, and wings. I made sweet potato fries, and friends brought watermelon and dessert. But just to also usher in the fall, we enjoyed this cider we bought at a Virginia cidery last year, and Molly made football cupcakes. 🙂 It was the perfect low key summer evening that made me feel like I just might be ready to let summer go.

Tuesday: Doggy Swim Day

doggy-swim-15

We love our apartment building year-round, but Tuesday night was definitely the greatest thing they do all year. DOGGY SWIM DAY AT THE POOL! I love that this is a new trend across the U.S., but if you haven’t heard of it, basically they let the dogs swim in the pool right before they drain it. It was seriously the best. So much so that I debated whether it needed its own post. But instead, I’m about to post way too many photos of it here. Sorry, not sorry.

When your lazy friend’s life jacket isn’t enough, so she tries to bum a ride off of you.

Will asked me after the event whether we actually have any other neighbors, because we know all the dog owners and no one else in our building. Dog owners just have to mingle because we’re constantly in and out with our dogs! The most fun part is that we know every dog in the building by name, and Pippa has legitimate “friends” who she plays with almost every day because we’re on the same walk schedule. She is kind of racist and prefers goldendoodles and dogs that look like goldendoodles (wheaten terriers), but she generally gets along with everybody as long as they don’t steal her ball.

This is Pippa’s bestie, Benson. She’ll betray her ball only for Benson.

Mom, get in with me! The water’s fine!

Pippa has a goldendoodle puppy friend she tries to show the ropes to. Here I feel like she’s saying, “Wyatt, dude, chill. There’s no running at the pool.”

Maaaaybe I can get this without getting in?

We shut the party down as the sun was setting and then slept REALLY well. 🙂

Wednesday: Lilly Pulitzer Fall Preview with Junior League

lilly-paintings

Aren’t these paintings in the stairwell so fun?

On Wednesday after work, I went to a fall line preview fundraising event with the Junior League at the new Lilly store in Georgetown. And I have lots to say on the topic. First of all, of course the new store and its decor are darling, because it’s Lilly and it’s Georgetown. Secondly, the fall prints are some of my favorites ever. And finally, in addition to lots of new classic prints, they also came out with a couple of “normal” striped dresses to wear to work and such. They’ve had striped t-shirt dresses in the past, but I haven’t seen dressier ones not in Lilly patterns, and they are gorgeous! As long as there are plenty of prints available, I’m good with Lilly expanding. I may have to do a whole post on this.

Thursday: The Panthers are Back

The Panthers are the team who taught me I could love the NFL, and for that, I am eternally grateful. They came back to open the NFL season with a re-match against the Broncos, and Will and I were so amped. Unfortunately, it was a heartbreaker, losing by one point. But I still thought they looked pretty good and that it will be a promising season! I don’t get too bent out of shape about wins and losses (which may make me a bad fan), I just love to watch the game. We’re looking forward to heading down to Charlotte in a couple weeks to go to a game with Will’s dad and Jenna! We love you, Cam!

P.S. I am quickly developing a distaste for the Broncos, but I loved the heartwarming segment before the game about Von Miller and his three closest childhood friends all making it to the NFL but still hanging out at home to this day.

Friday: Conquering the Gallery Wall

gallery-wall

This comes a day late and a dollar short for yesterday’s living room tour, and it wasn’t technically completed in August either, but alleluia it got done. The right side of the gallery wall felt like there was one photo sticking out awkwardly, so I finally got it evened out. Now it is uneven and haphazard in a more balanced way.

ALSO, in case you missed it, here’s what happened around here this week:

Mom and I shared the inside of Reese Witherspoon’s Draper James.

We explored the winery of your dreams.

I continued Wedding Wednesday’s progress with some Nashville engagement photos.

I finished our home tour!

How was your week?
