May Goals

Happy Monday! I know that everyone was losing sleep this week over the fact that I  went rogue and already abandoned Wedding Wednesdays (in its second week) AND neglected Friday Favorites as well. Sorry, but you didn’t miss a ton. Will was a social butterfly this past week with plans with friends 4 out of the 5 weeknights, and I was only out with him for two of them. I took that as an opportunity to make a huge salad for the week and catch up on Dance Moms while getting my life in order, and it was glorious. (Except that Maddie and MacKenzie said goodbye to the junior elite team. Not going to lie, I cried just a little bit. That was the big news of my week.) The one night we were both home was Wednesday, so we celebrated Cinco de Mayo early with our first batch of fajitas of the warm-weather season. (A momentous occasion, as we usually make them at least once a week in the summer.)

Better late than never, here are my goals for May:

  1. Plant window boxes with flowers and herbs on our balcony. We have a basil and a mint plant growing in our kitchen, and we decided May was the perfect time to take it to the next level and plant it on the balcony. Our old roommate had the cutest window boxes on the balcony railing full of herbs, and we’re inspired.
  2. Try some new restaurants and museums with Haley! I’m so excited that my bestie is coming into town next weekend! I am hoping we can try some new things in DC while we catch up!
  3. Re-vamp my skin care routine. I am not getting any younger, and while I wear sunscreen on my face everyday, I have a nagging sense that I’m not doing as much as I could in this department. I plan to do some research and get some new products to kick it up a notch.
  4. Put all photos on Smug Mug and Dropbox. This is a holdover from last month, but it needs to be done.
  5. Relax in Emerald Isle with Will’s Family for Memorial Day. Can’t wait!
  6. Clean out next closet or storage areaI know, these goals are riveting. Once I got on a roll with the guest bedroom closet, I made a list of all the other storage spaces in our apartment that could use a reset and decided to tackle one a month.
  7. Read at Least One Book Cover to Cover. This is my standing goal for 2016. And I count Audible!
  8. Go see a play. I don’t know what yet, but I need to look, because Haley is a great theater buddy.

I’ll let you know how it goes!

April Goals Update

  1. Spring Cleaning Re-do! Clean out and reorganize guest room closet and move spring clothes into master!  Done. Thrilled. Bragged about it here
  2. Throw a baby shower in Nashville! I’m so excited about this sweet girls’ weekend, with some of my oldest friends. I can’t wait to celebrate Paige and finally see that bump in person! This was SO fun. Can I go back? All the details are here and here.
  3. Go to Williamsburg with Mom. This is also going to be amazing–we’ve talked about doing this for forever!  Mom and I had the best weekend in Williamsburg! See it all here.
  4. Put all photos on Smug Mug and into Photos app. I haven’t been very organized with the photos I’ve taken with my DSLR. They need to all be in chronological order in all the places. I worked on this once or twice (so the goal lists do work), but didn’t finish it. May goal!
  5. Write down two “personal to-dos” each night. And actually do them the next day. I have had a hard time moving the ball forward on those little to-dos that need to get done but aren’t urgent any specific day. I wrote down more like 30 each day, but I made imperfect progress, little by little on these things every day. I think I did at least two a day, which was a huge improvement from my typical all-or-nothing attitude.
  6. Learn PhotographyJust keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Done. I’ve learned all the photography. Just kidding, but I did look up some basic pointers here and practice up a storm on poor Pippa.
  7. Read at Least One Book Cover to Cover. This is my standing goal for 2016. I actually listened to a book on Audible in the car, but as Will pointed out, I’m not reading to learn how to read, so I’m going to count it. The book was Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty (which is much better on tape anyway, because of the Australian accents). It’s a very fluffy piece of chick lit about upper-middle class Australian “mums” until you get into it, and then it’s a total murder mystery. It was clever and even thought-provoking. I recommend!
  8. Go See The Flick. Lucky for me they extended the run. Such a fun night. Read about it here
  9. BONUS: Went to Alexandria’s Del Ray neighborhood (and fell in love).
