Rent the Runway Black Tie Picks

Photo by Mike Cassimatis from our wedding reception (coming to the blog soon!)

So, confession: I have never rented the runway! I’ve looked at it so many times, but I always end up realizing that I own a ton of formal dresses or falling prey to a really good Bloomy’s friends and family sale (which is probably why I own a ton of formal dresses). The thing is, we have a black tie event at the end of the month, and I need something long and conservative for it. I have one good option (that hasn’t been over-exposed) in my closet, but it may need to be altered, and ain’t nobody got time for that. With the RTR storefront in Georgetown to go play dress up in, I think it might be time to pull the trigger.

I’d like to just take a moment to say that the customer event photos are everything. The ability to see the dress on so many different people is SO informative. I feel like I base my decisions mostly off of those pics.

Here are some of the candidates:

AP8

Allison Parris Grand Celebration Gown

You know I love tulle! This may not be the occasion for it, but some tulle that isn’t too out of control is always my fave. The other great thing about this is that the length would likely work, which is huge, because I’m short.

NK66

Nha Khanh Grey Lady Gown

I love that this is so different and provide full coverage without being frumpy.

MNL41

Monique Lhuillier Racing Sequins Gown

Most of the Moniquie Lhuillier dresses were out in my size for my weekend, but at one point I thought, “well I could have saved myself a ton of time and turned on the ML filter” because basically all my favorites were Monique. The only thing about this is I don’t know what’s going on with the beading on top. Are those pooky-doos like hanging off?

MN34

Marchesa Notte Eden Gown

Beautiful, spring-like, and feminine. I actually love to wear this color with my ghostly skin. I embrace the pale and just let my hair pop. (Gotta pour on that SPF 100+: I feel like for redheads, the whiter the better. )

BM347

Badgeley Mischka Louisa Gown

This is more expensive but an extremely safe choice.

My biggest concern with all of this is that I’ve never had a full-length dress I haven’t had to have cut off, so I will send them to the store. What do you think?
