December Goals

We started our very capital Christmas the day after Thanksgiving this year.

It’s December; it’s December! And that means it’s time for some December goals. I am just smugly sitting here by my fully decorated Christmas tree, because when your parents come to you for Thanksgiving and help you decorate, it makes all the difference. It’s still always amazing to me every time a new month rolls around, though, mostly because two months of time to accomplish all my 30 before 30 goals are gone! I have got to step it up!

December kicks off my favorite season, winter. Aah I love it. Winter is the season of sparkly things, all candles and sequins and black tie events. It’s the season we met, fell in love, and got married (under the snow). It’s the season of Christmas and Will’s birthday, and most importantly, skiing. There’s nothing I love more than a snow day (except a ski trip), and I love that things slow down in winter. Between Christmas, New Year’s, Will’s birthday, Valentine’s Day and our anniversary, there are so many opportunities to celebrate, spend time with family, reset my priorities, get those things done I never make time to do, and enjoy the most romantic season of the year!

Anyway, that’s my pitch for winter, but my December goals are mostly to cultivate and enjoy Christmas traditions and celebrations. Here’s what I’m thinking:

  1. Go see the Nutcracker performed by the Washington National Ballet. I don’t think I remember a December where I didn’t go see The Nutcracker, and it is one of my favorite holiday traditions. We saw the Washington National Ballet last year, and it was so good!
  2. Go to the United States Botanical Garden. I hear they have a really cool exhibit of monuments from around America, so maybe we can make this happen this weekend.
  3. Making Cleaning Daily Checklist. Trying this again!
  4. Make One Digital Photo Album. I have several on my to-do list, so I will start with whichever one strikes me, probably Maui, since I already edited the photos. This is good for down time between Christmas and New Year’s.
  5. Make Christmas Cookies and Watch Christmas Movies. Will and I did this last year and it felt like a really fun slumber party with your best friend when you were little and staying up too late. I think we got through both Home Alones (3 doesn’t count, people) and The Grinch and made the most delicious cookies.
  6. Join our Church. Finally! We are going to become full-fledged members after over a year of acting like we were.
  7. Throw a Baby Shower for Monica! We’re kicking off Christmas with a weekend in St. Louis for a wedding and a shower, and I can’t wait.
  8. Enjoy all the Christmas Parties, but Take time to Slow Down and Soak it in, Too. It’s a magical season, and we want to really focus on friends, family, and the reason for the season.

How did November go?

  1. Visit Mount Vernon. Done. Look out for photos soon.
  2. Make my First Thanksgiving Meal! I’m pretty sure Will made his first Thanksgiving meal, but we’re a team. See it here!
  3. Get Back into Yoga. Done! I still have one more studio I want to try before I can cross it off the 30 before 30 list, but I got to the mat several times, and I’m counting it.
  4. Send Christmas Cards. Ok, so they are not all in the mail, but they are stamped, stuffed, and return-addressed, so they’re about to be.
  5. Clean out Buffet, Living Room Dresser, and Under Guest Bed. Ugh, I just didn’t have this in me.
  6. Decorate for Christmas. Done! I will post our Christmas decorations soon!
  7. Visit Haley, James, and Scott in Houston! This was so fun! See posts here and here
  8. Make Cleaning Daily Checklist. Rolling this one over too.

Merry Christmas season!
